Harmony, peace and the retention of classic elements. These were the key words for Wolterinck’s design for converting an old doctor’s surgery in Lichtenvoorde into a country home. The oldest part of the building dates from the 1930s but the building has been added to a number of times over the years. As a result, the house was an confusing jumble of styles, both in terms of the façade and the interior. The layout was fragmented with stuffy rooms lacking any connection with each other. Wolterinck’s smart reorganisation totally surprised the residents. The interior design made good use of the historic elements and embellishments in the old surgery, and the reinterpretation of original objects and ornaments creates an exciting interplay with the new layout.
